Ofsted reports

Ofsted May 2021

On May 18th this year, Gusford were visited by two Ofsted HMIs to conduct a one day Section 8 inspection. We are very pleased to be able to inform you that they concluded that Leaders and those responsible for governance [at Gusford] are taking effective action in order for the school to become a good school. This was our third monitoring visit from Ofsted this academic year and we are really pleased that each HMI has reached a positive conclusion about the progress Gusford is making on our journey to becoming an Ofsted graded ‘good’ school. The HMIs’ findings have reflected our own understanding of our next steps on this journey and we are working at pace to implement these. We have summarised a few of the key points from the report in our letter to parents below.

Ofsted February 2021

On 25th February 2021 Gusford was again inspected by two HMIs (Her Majesty’s Inspectors) who this time conducted a Remote Monitoring Inspection.

These remote inspections have two possible outcomes, either that the school is, or is not, taking effective action to provide education. We are very pleased to tell you that we have been judged as the former: The inspector states: ‘Leaders and those responsible for governance are taking effective action to provide education in the current circumstances.’

We have summarised a few of the key points from the report in our letter to parents below. These points highlight the level of dedication and hard work that all of our Gusford staff have committed to continuing education and school improvement during the Covid pandemic.

We hope that you will be as pleased to read this report as we have been - what a positive way to start the new term! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for their feedback, both in response to our school surveys and the Ofsted Parent View survey. We always value your opinions and feedback and we’re pleased to see this reflected in the Ofsted report.

Ofsted October 2020

On Tuesday 20th October the school had an Ofsted visit. This was part of their research into how England’s education system is managing the return to full education for students, following an extended break in formal schooling due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Ofsted’s visits to schools during this autumn term are not inspections. They are not giving graded judgements. The information from this visit will feed into Ofsted’s national reporting so that the insights can be shared with the government and the education sector.

While the purpose of the visit was not to evaluate our provision, we were pleased to share with them our arrangements for remote learning and for our curriculum provision throughout the year. They noted the continued breadth of our curriculum, despite the introduction of year group bubbles, and the assessment processes in place to ensure gaps in knowledge are addressed. We also spent some time sharing the work we do with Commando Joes and Thrive and looked at how this supports wellbeing.

Here is the letter the Ofsted team sent to us after their visit:
