Extra-curricular
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in the education and personal development of pupils at Gusford Primary School.
Beyond the classroom, these activities help children explore their interests, develop new skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment. At Gusford, a wide range of opportunities in sport, arts, music, and drama enrich the school experience and encourage pupils to discover their individual strengths.
Sport is a key part of life at Gusford, promoting teamwork, perseverance, and a healthy lifestyle. Through football, netball, athletics, and other physical activities, children learn the importance of cooperation and fair play. Sporting clubs and competitions also help pupils develop resilience and determination, qualities that benefit them in all areas of learning.
The arts hold an equally important place in the school’s extracurricular programme. Art clubs encourage creativity and self-expression, allowing pupils to explore different materials, techniques, and styles. These experiences help nurture imagination and problem-solving skills, while giving children a sense of pride in their work.
Music is another cornerstone of Gusford’s extracurricular life. Choirs, instrumental lessons, and performance opportunities inspire children to develop their musical talents and work collaboratively. Performing in assemblies or concerts builds confidence and brings the school community together in celebration of achievement. This year we are taking part in The Big Sing at the O2 and Mrs Ingram our music co-ordinator has arranged a special Carol Service at St. Peter's Church.
Drama activities further enhance communication skills and empathy. Year 5 have been in involved in a Shakespeare peoject. Whether taking part in school plays or drama clubs, pupils learn to express themselves clearly, listen to others, and work as part of a team. These experiences also boost self-esteem and help children find their voice in a supportive setting.
Together, Gusford Primary School’s extracurricular opportunities in sport, arts, music, and drama provide a well-rounded education that extends beyond academics. They help pupils grow as confident, creative, and compassionate individuals, well-prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.
